The Dhillon Centre for Business Ethics at UBC Sauder, the UBC Allard Centre for Business Law, and the Centre for Feminist Legal Studies are pleased to co-host a panel discussion for the book launch of “From Ideas to Action, Governance Paths to Net Zero” by Dr. Janis Sarra on January 19, 2021.
Janis Sarra’s new book offers insights for companies and institutional investors on the legal, governance, and financial strategies needed for effective climate mitigation and financial sustainability. It takes the reader from ideas to action, from first steps to more meaningful contribution to a net-zero circular economy. It can serve as a helpful guide to everyone implicated in a corporation's activities - employees, pensioners, consumers, lenders, policymakers, and community members. It examines what we should be expecting, and asking, of these fiduciaries who have taken responsibility for effectively managing our savings, our retirement funds, our investments, and our tax dollars.
Janis Sarra is Presidential Distinguished Professor at the University of British Columbia and Professor of Law at its Peter A. Allard School of Law. She was previously Director of UBC's Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies. Dr Sarra served as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Law until 2007 and was founding Director of the National Centre for Business Law. Dr Sarra's research and teaching interests are in the areas of banking and finance law, corporate governance, corporate and securities law, climate and conservation finance, insolvency law, and contract law. Her publications have been cited with approval
in more than 100 superior and appellate court judgments, including by the Supreme Court of Canada. She serves on the Canadian delegation of UNCITRAL Working Group V. Dr. Sarra is called to the Bar of Ontario and previously as a commercial arbitrator, labour mediator/arbitrator, and tribunal vice-chair.
